Bev Hicks is the stepmother of former Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks, who lives in Australia. Ms. Hicks is married to Terry Hicks, the biological father of David Hicks. Hicks was captured in Afghanistan in December 2001 by the Afghan Northern Alliance and sold for a $5,000 bounty to the U.S. military. Ms. Hicks and her husband worked tirelessly with David’s attorneys to help their son prove his innocence. In 2007, David Hicks agreed to plea to Material Support of Terrorism in order to be released from Guantanamo. On February 19, 2015, after years of court battles, Hicks’ conviction was vacated.
