Legal Process at Guantanamo

Biography
Matt Diaz was a navy lawyer who served as deputy director of the Guantanamo detention center’s legal office. In 2005, after he was concerned about the legal and physical treatment of the detainees, Diaz sent an anonymous card to the Center for Constitutional Rights containing the names of detainees held at Guantanamo. In July 2006, Diaz was charged with five criminal counts relating to the letter, and was later convicted and given a 6-month sentence. In April 2008, Diaz was awarded the Ridenhour Prize for Truth Telling.
