Brandon Neely was born June 2, 1980 at Fort Benning, Georgia where his father, who retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant, was stationed. In June 2000, Neely joined the Army as a Military Police Officer, and signed a contract for 5 years. He was stationed in Guantanamo from January 2002 until March 2004, and left the Army in August of 2005. He was recalled to active duty from the Individual Ready Reserve in 2007, but refused to go back. Neely was then sent an honorable discharge from the Army Reserve. He is now a police officer, and resides in Houston, Texas with his wife and three children. In January 2010, Neely flew to the United Kingdom to meet with former detainees with whom he had reconnected via Facebook.
