Dr. Vincent Iacopino is the senior medical advisor to Physicians for Human Rights. He is a senior research fellow at the Human Rights Centre at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Iacopino was the medical director of Survivors International of Northern California, and the principle organizer behind the development of the U.N. Istanbul Protocol. The Protocol provides guidelines on effective torture investigation and documentation. He has also testified in a number of Guantanamo detainee hearings. In 2004, Dr. Iacopino received the Center for Victims of Torture’s Eclipse Award for extraordinary service.
