Murat Kurnaz bio
Murat Kurnaz was born in Bremen, Germany. He is a Turkish citizen, and legal resident of Germany. He was arrested in Pakistan at the age of 19, and detained from October 2001 to August 2006. He now resides in Germany.

I would like to say to Murat Kurnaz, that i read his book “Five Years of My Life.” It not only helped improve my knowledge of the powers of the US governemnt, but left me almost transparent. I went through every emotion that a person can feel while i read his story. At some point i would have loved it if i could have just hugged him, i don’t believe it would have done much then, but it would have let him know that an American cares deeply about him. His story and many other former detainees story like Mohammed Jawad, Shafiq Rasul and many more have deeply inspired me to become a human rights attorney. It is because of these men and the horrific episodes of their lifes in Guantanamo that have persuaded a pre-law student like me to further my studies in human rights law. I have not only studied these three peoples stories that i just mentioned but have written argumentative papers, of how I would have changed US policies……
