Ahmed Tourson is a Uyghur from the Xinjiang autonomous region, where he was born in January 1971. Tourson left China for Pakistan in September of 2000. While in Pakistan, Tourson became involved with the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM). He left for Kabul, Afghanistan shortly after his arrival in Pakistan, where he worked in an office for the ETIM. When U.S. military operations began a year later, he was captured by Afghanistan forces and sold to the U.S. military. He was transferred to Guantanamo Bay on January 21, 2002. In 2009, Tourson was released to Palau, a remote nation of 20,000 people in the western Pacific Ocean, near Guam. He has since left Palau, and his current residence is not confirmed.
